Charles Moore, FAIA, Architect

“Falling Windows” Townhouse, 1976
1725 Selby Ave, Westwood CA 90024

AIA Gold Medal winner and postmodern innovator Charles Moore designed this historical townhouse. As a professor of Architecture at UCLA, he designed a trio of townhomes for himself and other professors hoping to live in walking distance of campus. This unit has five levels in a four-story volume, including two outdoor patios joined by an exterior stair and garden. LA Architect Magazine calls the prop erty a “light-filled spatial puzzle.” Light enters from three sides to create patterns with the multi-faceted roof. Lofts, stairs, and overlooks create a series of perches throughout the property. Moore’s “Falling Windows” fenestration pattern, triple-height vaulted ceilings, and multiple fireplaces create drama within this inimitable design.
